Albert Huggins seems to have come under the Los Angeles Rams’ radar, not for his performance during Wednesday’s practice but for his behavior toward one of their staff member standing on the sideline.
While performing one-on-one drills, the Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman knocked over a staff member of the Rams by pushing him with both hands, right after he broke free of Mike McAllister’s block. Although it wasn’t clear that Huggins’ act was intentional, he straightway disregarded the staffer and resumed running toward his team.
The Rams were clearly upset with the lineman, particularly because he didn’t even acknowledge his action. He was escorted out of the practice immediately after the incident by a Cowboys staff before the situation could go out of hand.
After the Rams’ close victory by 13-12 against the Cowboys, both the teams hosted a joint practice. However after Huggins’ uncalled action, the Rams reportedly “don’t want to practice,” according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Following the incident, it might be tough for the nose tackle to secure his spot on the roster. He is coming off a career-high season record in 2023 with 22 tackles and one fumble recovery, but yet to log a sack. The only chance left for him to make an impression is the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Cowboys strengthen defensive line with trade for Jordan Phillips
While Huggins’ place on the roster remains uncertain, the Cowboys have made some recent additions to the roster by acquiring defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in a trade deal with the New York Giants along with obtaining a 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Cowboys have made the move to strengthen the defensive line by adding a veteran talent. With Phillips’ nine-year experience in playing for the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills, he seems to be bringing the depth Dallas’ defensive line needs.
In the 120 games he played in the league across nine seasons, Phillips logged 181 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 24 sacks, and one interception.
