Jerry Jones believed he had done enough so that his Dallas Cowboys could vault themselves into playoff contention. Bringing in George Pickens to pair alongside CeeDee Lamb would give them additional offensive firepower that was lacking last season.

The former was starting to get into rhythm, and his production started to improve. Except for his game-altering slip-up, which resulted in an interception, he has been doing whatever the team has asked him so far.

However, in that game, the Cowboys lost CeeDee Lamb to an injury, which saw him spend a lot of time in the medical tent before being officially ruled out for the rest of the session.

The hope was that his injury was not too serious and that he could return next week when they welcome back former teammate Micah Parsons and his Green Bay Packers.

That hope has now vanished in a cloud of smoke after Ian Rapoport reported that Lamb’s high ankle sprain was serious enough that he would be out for at least the next two games.

Rapoport also mentioned that the star wideout was not currently placed on injured reserve, which could see him return before 4 weeks in case he needs more time to recover.

At a time when the Cowboys’ offense is still going through growing pains under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, they required all their players to be healthy and go through the reps to understand each other’s nuances.

Now that CeeDee Lamb is out for the next couple of games, that plan is moot. With last year’s trade pickup, Jonathan Mingo still on IR, it will be a while before the Cowboys’ receiver room is healthy.

CeeDee Lamb could be named to injured reserve after additional tests

Even though CeeDee Lamb would miss time, Cowboys fans probably breathed a sigh of relief when it was reportedly to be just 2 games. However, additional tests could change that timeline.

Jerry Jones told reporters that CeeDee Lamb’s ankle injury could land him on injured reserve.

If this were to happen, then fans would only get to see the Oklahoma star lace up his cleats in their October 26th road game against the Denver Broncos. The situation could have been a bit better if they had had their bye sometime in this period.

But they have to wait until Week 10 to get some rest. All of this might be a good sign for the Cowboys, who would rather have injuries impact them now than later in the season.

Cowboys lose their rookie starter to injury

Those early-season injuries can be a blessing in disguise. It can test the team’s mettle as they look to each other and perform their duties to the best of what they can. However, when multiple losses come about, it starts to stretch the roster.

The Cowboys will be without rookie guard Tyler Booker for 4-6 weeks because of a high ankle sprain suffered vs. the Bears, per source. He played all 74 snaps. T.J. Bass looms as starter. Cowboys already w/o C Cooper Beebe for at least next three games.

That is two starting offensive linemen that QB Dak Prescott has to be without, at least for the next three games. Therefore, he will be without quite a few of his teammates who could have helped him get the offense into rhythm.

Now, they have to wait until mid-October before they can start to get back some of these players. The Cowboys are 1-2 so far, and need to win some games if they are to keep the playoffs in sight.
