Even though the Dallas Cowboys have repeatedly said that they want quarterback Dak Prescott for the long term, there have been speculations suggesting that his days are numbered in Dallas. Rumors also have it that the team is not going to extend the star quarterback if he doesn’t lead them to a successful playoff run.
Amid all rumors and speculations, Prescott has remained focused on his game and improved his performance ahead of the coming 2024 season. That’s why, despite the prolonged wait for the extension that still continues, he didn’t hold out from any practice session, neither the offseason program nor the training camp.
There have also been a lot of predictions about the three-time Pro Bowler’s contract valuation, as many claimed it would be record-breaking. However, during his recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” NFL Insider Ian Rapoport seemed to believe that the quarterback would hit free agency following the 2024 season and if he did, he would be valued at more than $60 million per year.
I think he's probably a free agent next year. People ask me how much money Dak would make in free agency—how high can you count? In free agency next year? Higher. More. Always over. Over, over, over.Ian Rapoport said
Whether or not Prescott will stay in Dallas is the question for the 2025 offseason, as at present, the quarterback is focused on the coming season starting on September 8, where they will be up against the Cleveland Browns.
Cowboys prioritizing CeeDee Lamb’s extension ahead of Dak Prescott
When it comes to unresolved contract extensions, the Pro Bowler quarterback isn’t the only one. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons are both eligible for the extension, but the situation of the former is more dire. Given, that the wide receiver has been holding out the training camp after the mandatory minicamp.
After having a Pro Bowl-level season and contributing majorly to the team’s success in the NFC East division, Lamb is demanding a deserving deal. His expectations raised another level after the wide receiver’s market flourished this offseason.
For now, the Cowboys are prioritizing Lamb’s extension given the urgency of the situation before Prescott and Parsons. Meanwhile, the linebacker still has one year left on his current contract apart from the 2024 season but he is still eager to sign a lucrative deal.
