NFL fans torch Jerry Jones for hiring Brian Schottenheimer as Dallas Cowboys head coach – “Most unserious organization in sports”
After weeks of speculation and two rounds of interviews, Jerry Jones named OC Brian Schottenheimer as the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Brian Schottenheimer is the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. After going through several high-profile names such as Deion Sanders, Pete Carroll, and Robert Saleh, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones handed the reins over to the club’s offensive coordinator.
Mike McCarthy’s tenure at Arlington ended in early January following a 7-10 season. He left the Cowboys with a 49-35 record for a different adventure, and Jerry needed a new man to steer the ship.
Jones tried to woo former player and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders to take the coaching job, but he refused. Ex-New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was another name that popped up a few times until the San Francisco 49ers made him one of the highest-paid defensive coordinators.
Veteran head coach Pete Carroll, who took a break from coaching for a year after leaving the Seattle Seahawks, was Jones’ favorite for the Cowboys job. However, Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders acted quickly and appointed the Super Bowl winner as their head coach.
This paved the way for the Cowboys to settle on quarterback Dak Prescott’s favorite Brian Schottenheimer. On Friday, two days before the conference championship games, the Cowboys decided to upgrade Schottenheimer from the offensive play-caller to their head coach.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the news with a statement from Jerry Jones.

Cowboys fans unhappy with Brian Schottenheimer’s appointment as head coach
Cowboys fans felt relieved when McCarthy left, but their tension skyrocketed after realizing Jones was stalling for time and very few candidates actually took interviews for the job. Whereas Schottenheimer had two bites at the cherry.
Schottenheimer was arguably among the list of favored individuals for the job for the Cowboys nation, but Jones stuck to his guns, and now the 39-year-old will take over as head coach.
The most unserious organization in sports.

I honestly don't know how to feel right now..I'm trying to understand what Jerry meant by saying he was "all in". Maybe the coach is good, maybe he's not, but my energy towards how the Cowboys have been mixing things doesn't feel like success anytime soon..

How the hell do you choose Schotty over Mike McCarthy? Or Deion? You can wrap your brain around Kellen Moore! This… I mean come on. It’s over. It’s been over but now it’s all over.

You’re the Dallas Cowboys. The most valuable sports franchise in the world. You have a top 10 franchise QB. You have an All Pro WR. A young and promising OL. The best defender in the NFL. Two All Pros at CB. The 12th pick in the draft. No salary cap for coaches. And still you…

The attention-obsessed Cowboys buried the hiring of their new coach at 10 ET on a Friday night. That tells you all you need to know.

What a slap in the face to Cowboys fans. Firing McCarthy to promote Schotty is genuinely the most pathetic HC move I can remember https://t.co/GOwDyFrRZv

For the Cowboys to respond with this hire and the process of hiring Brian Schottenheimer in response to what the Commanders and Eagles have done with their franchises tells you all you need to know about how serious they are about handling their team…#DallasCowboys

Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys in 2023 after Kellen Moore left the OC job. However, McCarthy took over as the play-caller. Before the Cowboys, he was part of the Rams, Colts, and Seahawks’ staff.
