Before Dak Prescott ended his season, he pointed out that the one area that has caused the offense to struggle was the lack of a run game. In the offseason, owner Jerry Jones had chances to fix it, but he brought back Ezekiel Elliott and did not add anyone significant to his Dallas Cowboys running back room.
Elliott expressed his excitement when he signed, thrilled to return to the franchise that drafted him, and declared he had unfinished business. But fans knew he was not the lead back owing to his drop in form over the past few seasons.
But the season did not even go as per plan when Ezekiel Elliott saw his numbers reduce even further. Reduced may not be the right word as the former All-Pro saw less than half the attempts compared to last season.
He became disgruntled, seeing that the backs ahead of him weren’t excelling on the field either. It seems the 29-year-old had enough, and it was reported earlier that he was released by the Cowboys. The franchise then put up a post on their X account with a statement from Jerry Jones that read.

The 82-year-old owner added that he has always held the stance that the running back was one of the greatest to ever play for the franchise. However, with the Dallas Cowboys season over, he accepted Ezekiel Elliott‘s request to be released.
Cowboys fans unload on Jerry Jones for another offseason failure
When fans came to know about this release and this statement, they were livid. They felt it was Jerry Jones’ fault that their team did not have a good running back at their disposal. It makes it worse when Derrick Henry, who lived in Texas, said he wanted to play for them. Now, with Elliott asking for a release, the owner’s mistakes come full circle.
Dallas Cowboys fans took to social media to vent their frustrations as they witnessed another of Jones’ offseason failures. Social media saw these comments targeting the owner-cum-GM.
Could’ve signed Derrick Henry, but Jerry chose Zeke instead. The worst GM/Owner in the NFL.

Cowboys fans have to shift their focus on next season. Many had called out their GM’s lack of offseason moves, but apparently, he was all in. Now that ‘all in’ claim has seen him face trolls from rival fans as well as brickbats from his own.
