The Pittsburgh Steelers are losing the George Pickens trade. Pickens is performing at a very high level for the Dallas Cowboys, with another match-winning performance on Thanksgiving Day against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pickens turned out to be the big player for the big occasion. He caught 6 passes on 13 targets for 88 yards (14.7 yards per catch) and scored one touchdown, including a 39-yard run at the start of the fourth quarter.

After quarterback Dak Prescott hit Pickens with an accurate pass, the 24-year-old escaped one Chiefs defender, juked another, and then hurdled a third to gain much-needed yardage for the Cowboys.

Pickens caught three total passes in the drive on four targets. Prescott finished off the series with a cheeky pass to running back Javonte Williams for a receiving touchdown.

In the two-point try, Prescott found Pickens inside the Chiefs’ end zone. At first glance, he appeared out of bounds, but the replay confirmed both Pickens’ feet were planted on the ground before running out of turf.

Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey added three more points later on to extend the gap even further. The Chiefs scored a touchdown late in the game through Hollywood Brown, but the Cowboys hung on to secure a famous win against the Super Bowl LIX runner-ups.

The Cowboys won 31-28 and improved to a 6-5-1 record. George Pickens’ tally grew to 73 receptions for 1142 yards and 8 touchdowns.

According to FOX Sports, Pickens has put up more yards than all the Steelers receivers combined. DK Metcalf, who replaced Pickens in Pittsburgh, has 42 catches on 70 targets for 573 yards and 5 touchdowns. Tight end Pat Freiermuth is second on the list with 298 yards.

Former Cowboys receiver shared his thoughts on George Pickens’ performance against the Chiefs

The Chiefs arrived as the firm favorites to defeat the Cowboys, despite the game being scheduled in hostile territory. These two rarely face each other, but when they do, it’s always a grand affair.

Prior to Thursday night’s game, the Cowboys led the series 7-5 in twelve previous meetings and were unbeaten in Dallas for over half a century. Pickens ensured the record remained unbroken.

Former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant commended Pickens’ game with a simple tweet.

George Pickens is very different! Crown that man!

Dez Bryant tweeted

Bryant has been a vocal supporter of Pickens ever since he left the AFC for the NFC East. Following his masterclass against the Eagles last week, Bryant advocated for Pickens to stay in Dallas beyond the 2025 season. He doubled down on his previous message with a different tweet.

I stand by these words..George Pickens. Anybody who disagrees with what I’m talking about. I call them goofy bit*** right to their face…I don’t get on TV or a podcast to create controversy to rip players just to make a dollar. I sure don’t hide my real self like 90% current or former players…This is a real game..pimp… great game!

Bryant tweeted

Cowboys’ owner/general manager, Jerry Jones, is more than happy to see Pickens in a Cowboys jersey in the future as well.

We have two No. 1 receivers.. There’s nothing we can gain from speculating about his contract today. The bottom line is we’re in good shape. He’s playing better than we ever could have anticipated. He’s an outstanding teammate.

Jerry Jones said

Pickens was born to play for the Cowboys. In a Players’ Tribune article written by Pickens and edited by his mother, he revealed a memory from his adolescent days.

My mom has this picture of me from when I was a kid, and I think it might be her favorite. I had just finished a Pee-Wee football game, and I was knocked out in the backseat of her car. Full pads, helmet still on… completely gone. I didn’t even have the strength to take it off. I left everything on the field. And guess what team I was playing for back then, by the way? You already know… The Eastlake Cowboys. I was born for Showtime, bro.

Pickens will have to wait until the season wraps up to learn about his future. In the meantime, the Cowboys still have an outside chance of making the playoffs. They are second in the East behind the Eagles and occupy the 9th seed following the win against the Chiefs.
