The Dallas Cowboys have not had many positive things to look forward to this season. A disappointing 5-7 record and the glaring possibility of missing the playoffs stare them in the face. However, one man who has been consistent for them is their kicker, Brandon Aubrey.

He has a stellar 84.4% field goal completion rate this season and has earned 102 points for the team. Brandon Aubrey has set records in the NFL with his 66-yard unofficial kick and a 65-yard field goal which tied the Cowboys franchise record. However, he is confident that he could do better.

On his recent appearance on Good Morning Football, Brandon Aubrey was asked what the maximum distance that Head Coach Mike McCarthy could expect him to kick without hesitating under ideal conditions at AT&T Stadium is. “Absolutely, I’d put it somewhere around 72 yards,” the kicker confidently responded. Given his track record and the kicks made, it is not hard to see him accomplish this feat.

The kicker’s existing official record is for 65 yards, the one he set earlier this season against the Baltimore Ravens. He matched Justin Tucker’s 66-yard record for the longest field goal in NFL history in the team’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Dallas Cowboys almost considered letting Aubrey go for a 71-yard field goal during the team’s season-opener against the Browns but their special teams coordinator decided against it as the Browns had placed a man right under the goalpost to return the kick in case the Cowboys came up short. The world was robbed of a chance to see Brandon Aubrey make history.

On the plus side, the Dallas Cowboys offense without Dak Prescott means Brandon Aubrey gets a lot more opportunities to kick field goals. While the kicker is unlikely to get the chance of scoring a 71-yarder this season, who knows maybe he will get a chance to accomplish this feat at some point next year.
