Despite the conversations about expecting more from the players, the Dallas Cowboys once again proved that they aren’t ready to give away their star players. While they acquired Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb with the highest-paid and second-highest-paid contracts of their respective positions, the only remaining superstar from the current roster now is Micah Parsons‘.
Lately, there have been rumors that the franchise had been considering trading the star linebacker, but Cowboys Chief Operating Officer Stephen Jones dismissed all the rumors, stating that the team cannot see Parsons playing for another team. The star edge rusher is expected to enter the free agency in 2026, but it appears the America’s team would not delay long before extending him.
We love Micah. I can’t imagine there’s a scenario where he’s not wearing a star on his helmet.

Despite the team’s collapse since last season’s playoffs elimination, Parsons remains among the elite ones. In the 2025 offseason, the team has big plans of not only extending Parsons but also acquiring and signing big players to strengthen the roster and not let anything the fate as they did this season.
The #Cowboys will rethink everything this offseason, including the ramifications of paying top-end talent. But what does that mean for the looming contract for star Micah Parsons?

Fortunately for the America team, their sentiments to keep Parsons are very well reciprocated by the three-time Pro Bowler, who has said multiple times that he does not wish to go anywhere but Dallas. He is entering the final season of his rookie contract with the team and soon would hop on the negotiations once again.
Stephen Jones emphasizes big-picture thinking for Cowboys’ future roster decisions
The Cowboys COO Jones had a long conversation with Rapoport where he opened up about the team’s major realization this season has been to look at the bigger picture ahead. That’s why, after this season concludes, they are hoping to go through a filtration method and elevate the roster.

To me, it would be irresponsible if every year you don’t look at the full body of work and the big picture and how those guys fit into that big picture. How we want to think about our team in terms of the big picture going forward.

However, there might be some issues in offering Parsons a lucrative deal, as it wouldn’t leave much for the rest of the roster. And in that case, their plans to acquire high-profile players in the big open would not come in handy to them. They are projected to have only $22 million in cap space this offseason.
