Micah Parsons is in the last year of his rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys, and there have been massive speculations about his future with the franchise due to a 6-8 record after fifteen weeks of football. Parsons is in line for a $40 million extension, which will make him the highest-paid defender in NFL history.

Parsons is well aware of his position, so when reporters asked him if he wanted to earn more than the San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa’s $34 million, the former first-rounder denied the proposition. He would rather see the players around him getting new deals than the Cowboys only paying him top money.

It would be nice to be surrounded by good players. Players are going to help you win championships. I want to keep as many guys as possible… I want to work with them as much as possible.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones read about Parsons’ intention and felt a sense of relief that the All-Pro pass rusher appears to be on board for the long term.

If you can get ahead of (these big contracts), you want to get ahead of them. Hats off to Micah. I’ve seen some of the comments that he’s made. (He’s) had conversations with Jerry (Jones) and I. That’s what we want. We want guys who want to be here.

Stephen Jones said while appearing on the 105.3 The Fan radio show

The Cowboys are currently preparing to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 16. They will start as underdogs against the 8-6 Bucs.

Micah Parsons is close to another Pro Bowl accolade

The Cowboys don’t function properly when Parsons is in the middle making plays for the defense. He is the heartbeat of the team and also a leader in the locker room. So when he went down with an ankle injury in September, the Cowboys had the air sucked out of them.

They lost four games in succession and conceded an average of 30+ points. The Cowboys still lost a few games after Parsons returned, but his influence on the team’s performance was clear as daylight.

In 10 total games this season, Micah Parsons has 8.5 sacks (6.5 came after recovering from injury). He needs to keep performing on the same level and help the Cowboys win the remaining three games (Buccaneers, Eagles, and Commanders). If some of the results around the NFC go in their favor, then a wild card spot isn’t out of the question.
