Watch: Virat Kohli saves Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket on Day 1 by taking a crucial review

It was not very long ago that India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane helped skipper Virat Kohli in staying for a longer period on the field by insisting on a review. The incident occurred during the third innings of the third innings between India and England. Kohli was all set to walk back to the pavilion after being adjudged lbw.

However, Rahane, who was standing at the non-striker’s end, stopped the skipper and told him to go for a review. The review turned out to be a successful one for India. The cricket fans were again greeted with somewhat similar visuals on day one of the fourth Test. However, it time around it was Virat who saved his deputy’s wicket.

The last delivery of the 32nd over by Chris Woakes was a length delivery that jagged back in to beat Rahane’s defense. Rahane seemed under-prepared for the ball as it hit him straight on the pads. After a loud appeal by the Englishmen, the on-field umpire lifted his finger to adjudge Rahane lbw.

After a serious discussion with Kohli, who was at the non-striker’s end, Rahane decided to go for the review. The review came in the favor of the vice-captain as the ball missed the stumps. Rahane was playing at 1 after facing three balls at that time.

Though Rahane managed to get away with the close call, he couldn’t prolong his stay on the match field. The 33-year-old marched back to the pavilion in the 50th over after facing 47 balls and scoring 14 runs. It was England’s right-arm seamer Craig Overton who picked the scalp of the out-of-form batter.

Meanwhile, India again suffered a collapse as the batting unit failed to answer the tough questions asked by England’s bowlers. At tea, team India found themselves reeling at 122 for six with Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur in the middle.
