The selection committee of the Cricket West Indies has announced a provisional 17-man West Indies squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa.
West Indies are all set to host South Africa for a two-match Test series and a five-match T20I series. The two-match Test series will be played at the Daren Sammy National Stadium, St Lucia whereas the five T20Is will be hosted by the National Stadium in St George’s.
In two Test matches scheduled for June 10-14 and June 18-22, the two sides will compete for the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy. These are the last Test matches of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, with both sides hoping for a superior position in the final Championship table.
The squad for the T20I series was announced earlier while the 17-man Test squad which was announced on Friday is expected to be further cut down to an official 13 members squad on 7th June.
Kraigg Brathwaite will be handling the reigns of the West Indies Test team with Jermaine Blackwood as his deputy.
Uncapped bowler Jayden Seales has been included for the first time in the West Indies squad owing to an injury to pacer Chemar Holder who has to miss out on the series.
The selection committee also revealed that four more young fast bowlers, Keon Harding, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley, and Nial Smith, will stay in St. Lucia to aid the Test squad with their preparations.
West Indies will be hosting South Africa in a bilateral series for the first time in 11 years. South Africa won the three-match Test series 2-0 and swept the limited-overs series, winning the T20 and ODI series 2-0 and 5-0, respectively, in their previous bilateral clash in the Windies in 2010.
