IPL 2022: 3 Players LSG could sign if Mark Wood gets ruled out of the tournament
Mark Wood performed well for England in T20 WC warm-up matches
It is not surprising anymore to see England players pull out of IPL. With the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sceptical about sending players to the Indian Premier League, many players have started skipping the tournament. While this may be the case, franchises still rely on English players and sign them at the auction. Mark Wood was also a top English sign at the IPL Mega Auction in 2022.
The pacer was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping 7.5 Crore. With the latest updates coming in, Mark Wood can also follow the footprints of countrymen Alex Hales and Jason Roy and miss the entire IPL 2022. He suffered an acute injury to his right elbow while exploring nets on the final morning of the first Test in Antigua, a team spokesman said.
Some other reports have also suggested that it will take more than 15 days for the paceman to be able to bowl. Even though Wood gets fit enough to bowl, it is unlikely he will come into the IPL. Mark Wood’s injury is somewhat similar to Jofra Archer’s. Thus, both ECB and Mark Wood will not think about risking it for an IPL contract.

3 players who can replace Mark Wood in Lucknow Super Giants squad for IPL 2022:
Dhawal Kulkarni
The 33-year-old pacer, who was with Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2021, did not sell in the mega auction. In fact, he played his last game against CSK after he went unsold in the auction. With 92 games played in the IPL, Kulkarni has picked up 86 wickets so far. He is among the best domestic cricketers and has done that for a long time.
Andrew Tye
Despite the fact that Andrew Tye’s base price of INR 1 crore could not be met at the upcoming IPL 2022 auctions, he has previously played for Gujarat Lions, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings. The pacer left a mark straightaway in the tournament, on his debut in 2017. Playing for the Gujarat Lions, Tye took five wickets, conceding seventeen runs in four overs at an economy rate of 4.25. In the following season, he won the Purple cap for Punjab Kings. Tye has picked 40 wickets in 27 matches, at an economy rate of 8.47 so far in his IPL career. The Australian pacer is in great form recently, playing a key role in Perth Scorchers’ championship win. He could prove to be an asset for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022.
Kane Richardson
In the IPL, Kane Richardson is known for his death bowling prowess and excellent yorkers. Richardson has played for the Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. His best figures were 3/13 against Rising Pune Supergiant. The Aussie pacer has picked up 19 wickets in 15 IPL matches so far, at an average of 24.84. He pulled out of the Indian Premier League 2020 and 2021 seasons, which may have been the reason behind him not finding a bid this season. However, he is a good replacement option for Mark Wood.
