One of the teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who have had a tough run off late, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have named their four retentions ahead of the forthcoming season with quite some surprises. Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal are set to once again play for the Royals in IPL 2022.

The Rajasthan Royals sprung quite a few surprises letting go of their best bowler for quite some time now Jofra Archer and the extremely talented Ben Stokes. As has been the case with RR for quite some time now, they have heavily banked on young guns and their retention list speaks so.

Both Samson and Yashasvi have quite some heavy lifting to do next season if they are to justify their retention. With a new core team, RR have quite some buying to do at the mega auction coming up with a 62 crores purse. With the middle order and bowling lineup yet to be figured out, the Royals will have their hands full at the auction.

The last couple of IPL seasons have witnessed RR struggle with an essentially non-existent middle order. Despite trying numerous combinations, the Royals failed to seal the hole in the ship. Manish Pandey could prove vital in the side giving them the much-needed stability in the middle.

Over the past couple of seasons, Pandey has shown glimpses of being a very mature and responsible batsman with an ability to adapt to situations rather quickly. The Karnataka batsman’s experience will only help the budding skipper Sanju Samson share the load of the middle order, something that has bogged him down quite a lot.

Yet another department where RR has been struggling is the spin department. They have been searching for a patent leg spinner who can give them control in the middle overs. But yet again they have failed miserably having tried numerous options. With Rashid Khan going under the hammer, the Royals will be looking to check that box this time around.

Rashid undoubtedly is one of the best T20 bowlers going around and there is no doubt he will be a hot property at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Royals have spent big on players they felt could be key to their team and it won’t be a surprise if they went all out to secure the services of the Afghan spinner.

Having released all the quicks, Rajasthan will be looking to lock in an all-around bowler who can bowl at any stage of the game. And Trent Boult could be the guy they go after given the side’s inclination for left-arm quicks. Boult has been at the top of his game off late and is one of the most lethal bowlers with the new ball going around.

Moreover, the Kiwi pacer’s knack for taking wickets in the death with his variations adds yet another dimension to his game. Boult’s experience too will come into play as he will be the one spearheading the pace battery. All in all the veteran pacer will be the perfect candidate to lead the RR bowling attack, a department that has been under fire for quite some time now.
