Revealed! Top 3 players SRH should target for IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad

One of the teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who have had a rough couple of seasons, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have named their four retentions ahead of the forthcoming season with quite some surprises. Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik are set to once again play for the Sunrisers in IPL 2022.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped quite some bombs letting go of their former captain and top run-getter for some time now David Warner and the extremely talented Rashid Khan. As has been the case with SRH for quite some time now, they have heavily banked on young guns, who are yet to prove their merit and their retention list speaks so.

Both Samad and Umran have quite some heavy lifting to do next season if they are to justify their retention. With a new core team, SRH have quite some buying to do at the mega auction coming up with a 68 crores purse. With a new opening partnership and the entire middle order yet to be figured out, the Sunrisers will have their hands full at the auction.

Let’s look at three players SRH might target at the IPL 2022 mega auction:

Faf du Plessis

One of the most dependent batters going around, Faf du Plessis is expected to be a very sought after player at the mega auction. While many teams will be after the Protea star, SRH will be the most eager team. The Sunrisers have had their troubles in the partnership last season and they will look to tick the box with a star of Faf’s stature.

The former South African skipper is coming off a tremendous outing in IPL 2021 where he finished as the second-highest run-getter in the league. Apart from his prowess with the bat, du Plessis brings a lot to the table with his experience and stunning fielding abilities, making him a perfect package.

Marcus Stoinis

A shaky middle-order was Hyderabad’s biggest problem last season where they finished last on the points table. Apart from Manish Pandey, no one looked anywhere close to shouldering the responsibility and Marcus Stoinis could be the right player to fill the void. The Aussie has been in tremendous form off late let it be in the IPL or for his national side.

Moreover, Stoinis has the ability to open the batting and can roll his hands over for a couple of handy overs. To go with his solidity, the Aussie is capable of providing some much-needed firepower that will ease the load on young Abdul Samad. Stoinis too is yet another player who ticks all the boxes and is a perfect fit for the SRH outfit.

Lockie Ferguson

Express pace and devious variations, that is what makes Lockie Ferguson such a canny operator and could be just the guy Sunrisers would need to partner up with Umran Malik. Ferguson was very successful in the first leg of IPL 2021 which was held in India and troubled the best in the business with his pace.

The Kiwi quick is very effective in the shorter format and his experience will help the franchise groom Umran, who has a very similar style of operating. Moreover, Ferguson’s knack to take wickets at any stage in the game and his death bowing would see the end of SRH’s pace bowling woes, one which has been haunting them for quite some time now.
