“They will break the bank for him”: Aakash Chopra names Yuzvendra Chahal’s replacement for RCB in IPL 2022

Yuzvendra Chahal

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a fabulous run in IPL 2021 before they hit a brick wall in the playoffs. The Virat Kohli led side looked much balance this season and the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell turned out to be a masterstroke. The second half witnessed the rise of KS Bharath and the redemption of Yuzvendra Chahal as RCB made it to the playoffs comfortably.

While Bharath was a rock at number three, Chahal was back at its usual best as he troubled the best of batters in the UAE. Despite his impressive performance, the veteran spinner couldn’t make the cut for the T20 World Cup and is now not in the list of retained players for RCB ahead of the mega auction.

While Chahal will be a hot commodity at the mega auction, the onus is on Bangalore think tank to try and find a replacement for the veteran leggie. While there are quite a few options, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra is confident and the Royal Challengers will eye this budding leggie to try and replace Chahal.

Chopra asserts that only leg spinners have been able to step up at the Chinnaswamy stadium, a graveyard for bowlers and the Royal Challengers have no other way but to rope in a quality leggie. Chopra feels that the Challengers will be going all out to bag the services of Rahul Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal’s potential replacement in the Bangalore side as well as the Indian team.

RCB will not get Rashid, they can forget about that. Instead, they will go after Rahul Chahar, big time. No spinners apart from leg spinners work at the Chinnaswamy stadium. He also bowls a lot quicker in the air. Ravi Bishnoi is also an option, but I’m thinking Chahar, they will break the bank for him. Chahal might not make it to the auctions,” Chopra said during a QnA session on his YouTube channel.

Chahar has been impressive over the last few seasons. While he returned with just 13 wickets in what was a subdued IPL 2021 for him, the budding leggie had scalped 15 the season before. Moreover, his economy has improved a fair bit and his speed through the air could prove to be an X factor for the red and black outfit.
