“I don’t have it in me anymore…”- Virat Kohli recalls his emotional reaction after hearing AB de Villiers’ voice note on retirement
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli
AB de Villiers was an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise since the 2011 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). His records will tell how he is one of the legends in IPL. Now that de Villiers is no more with the RCB, this explosive batter’s loss will be felt by the franchise as well as the entire cricket world.
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli and de Villiers had strong bond with each other on and off the field. The duo has a record of scoring the highest partnership runs of 229 against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016, in the entire history of IPL. Kohli has revealed about the first reaction he had when he heard about AB de Villiers retirement from all forms of cricket.
In a video shared by RCB, Kohli could be seen recalling that moment when he heard for the first time about AB de Villiers’ retirement. AB de Villiers had sent him a voice note on WhatsApp.
Kohli said: “It’s very strange, I mean, I clearly remember when he decided to finally call it a day. He sent me a voice note. And I still remember after the world cup, we were coming back from Dubai and I got this voice note and we were driving back home. And I opened it and I listen to it and Anushka was with me and I just looked at her like this …she was like ‘what’ and I showed her the message, I showed her the WhatsApp chat and voice note from AB de Villiers and the first thing she said was ‘Don’t tell me’”.
“I kept getting nervous”- Virat Kohli on Ab de Villiers
AB de Villiers started acting strangely, as Virat Kohli recalled. Despite being too close with each other, de Villiers wanted to go for coffee and Kohli used to get nervous because of this behaviour. He also admitted that if RCB ends up winning the title in this season or in the coming seasons, he will be very emotional without de Villiers.
Kohli said: “I mean I kind of had the impression or I kind of was guessing it in the last IPL. Because our room was again next to each other and walk the same way, and then disperse. And every time I walk to my room and he would see me outside, he’d be like ‘I want to see you for coffee one of these days’ and I kept getting nervous.”
“I was like I’m not sitting with you I think there’s something coming and he said no man there is nothing I just want to sit and have a chat with you, it’s been a wile and this and that and he never speaks like that you know because we interact all the time, so I knew something brewing up but it’s a very strange feeling I got very emotional and the voice note was very emotional as well for me when he said “look I don’t have it in me anymore and I was like…man!”
