I’m expecting 600-plus runs from Virat Kohli in the IPL this year: AB de Villiers

AB De Villiers

Former South African and Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer AB de Villiers is anticipating a vintage Virat Kohli season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). According to him, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain will score more than 600 runs in the 15th edition of the cash-rich league. Kohli looked in good form in the first game against PBKS, scoring an unbeaten 41 off 29 deliveries.

This season, RCB will be without De Villiers, who has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The franchise has attempted to fill his position at the top of the order by selecting Faf du Plessis and naming him captain.

Meanwhile, RCB lost their first game to PBKS despite scoring 205 runs while batting first. However, with Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood on the way, the team should only get better as the season goes on.

AB De Villiers has high expectations for the team’s young members

Returning to AB de Villiers’ prediction, he is looking forward to seeing Virat Kohli, the batter, unleash in the IPL 2022. The latter has been having a difficult time in his career, as he has been unable to score with the bat in recent times. AB de Villiers, on the other hand, believes that the former RCB captain will surpass the 600-run mark this year.

“Everyone is aware of Faf du Plessis’s appointment as captain. The most exciting thing for me is Virat not being captain and letting go of some of the pressure, really just going out there and freeing up. Virat Kohli is going to have a huge season, in my opinion. I am thinking 600+ runs from him this year,” he said while speaking to VUSport Official.

He also discussed his expectations for the players at the RCB camp, who are mostly young players on the team, to grow this season with the franchise. “He (Kohli) will be whispering in Faf’s ear, but Faf is also very experienced.” He has received good cricketing training, and he would allow Virat and some of the younger players to relax and enjoy the IPL.

“I don’t know what to expect (from RCB), but I expect some individuals from the RCB setup to really shine in this IPL,” AB De Villiers added. RCB will face KKR today at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai in an attempt to avenge their loss in their first game.
