The Women’s Big Bash League 2021 has reached the last stage of the tournament with the final few teams fighting to lift the trophy. The Challenger match took place between Melbourne Renegades (MLR) and Adelaide Strikers (ADS) at the Adelaide Oval.

ADR skipper Tahlia McGrath won the toss and opted to bowl first in the knockout game. Her team’s bowlers responded well as they produced outstanding performances to restrict their opponents to a paltry total of 83 runs in 20 overs.

Aussie speedster Megan Schutt began the carnage for her side after taking a wicket off the first ball of the match. The 28-year-old bowled a dream full delivery to castle away wicketkeeper-batter Josephine Dooley‘s stumps.

Batting first, Adelaide somehow managed to post 83 runs on the board after contributions from their lower-order batters. All the Renegades bowlers bowled brilliant spells while Darcie Brown emerged as the pick of the bowlers with bowling figures of 4-0-9-2.

In reply, MLR opening batters Dane van Niekerk and Dane van Niekerk were all over the opposition with their respective knock of 43 and 31* runs. They eventually won the game convincingly by nine wickets in hand and 55 balls to spare. With this clinical triumph, the Melbourne-based franchise will lock horns with Perth Scorchers in the final match on Saturday.
