5 players to watch out for at Commonwealth Games 2022
Beth Mooney
Beth Mooney opens for Australia in the T20I format with Alyssa Healy. She is an absolute game changer and with Healy, she gets the licence to go till the end. If Moony decides to strike from ball 1 than we know what the scorecard will look like. Most of the time, the rest of the order find it comforting to score when the opening contributes much needed runs. The reigning T20 champions Australia will lock-horns with India in the tournament opener.
Shefali Verma
This youngster is a very aggressive one. Often times, she fails to undertand the need of the situation but in the recently-concluded India’s tour or Sri Lanka, Verma had shown some maturity as she played according to the need of the situation. Already we are familiar with the hard hitting ability of this rocket player.
The 18-year-old will be in business in the tournement opener against Australia. She also became the youngest Indian to debut in T20I format. So far, she has played 32 games and smashed 753 runs.
With power hitters like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Pooja Vastrakar, Indian team has the ability to get on the podium.
Dannielle Wyatt
This pocket-sized English player is a dynamite. There have been confusion regarding her position in the team but with the likes of Heather Knight, Sophia Dunkley, and Nat Sciver already being there for the finishing job, Danni Wyatt can open the innings to give a strong start to the innings. Wyatt will remain a quick hitter no matter where the management places her.
Marizanne Kapp
South Africa had a couple of huge blows when their fine player Lizelle Lee announced her retirement from international cricket. Also, Dane van Niekerk will miss out the matches due to injury. These batters were the indispendible part of South Africa’s team and without them, the Proteas’ batting looks not that stronger.
Here the experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp will remain the hope for South Africa. South Africa will need her not as batter or bowler but as the all-rounder for her crucial contribution when in need. Laura Wolvaardt, Chloe Tryon, Shabnim Ismail are other key players for South Africa.
Sophie Devine
Sophia Devine is New Zealand’s huge hope. She is the captain, an experienced explosive opener, she played the T20 format excellently. She has played T20 matches all around the globe. Since New Zealand doesn’t have many explosive players, so it’ll depend on how Devine uses captaincy duties to manage the batters.
