The visitors do not have their regular spin-consultant Sridharan Sriram due to his not being able to secure a visa to Pakistan. Replacing Sriram, Ahmed stays in isolation and Australians are awaiting his negative results as they will face Pakistan’s unfamiliar conditions. Australia will take on Pakistan in the first Test match from Friday in Rawalpindi. The series is being called Benaud-Qadir named after legendary Australia all-rounder Richie Benaud and Pakistani leg-spinner Abdul Qadir.

The 40-year-old was born in Pakistan and fled to Australia in 2010 as an asylum seeker after threats from the Taliban. He had played three ODIs and two T20Is for the Aussies after the granting of his Australian citizenship in 2013. In the recently held Pakistan Super League, he was part of the Lahore Qalandars’ squad who lifted their maiden trophy this year. Fawad had also tested Covid-19 positive last year at the PSL and was also the second person to come out positive on this tour. Haris Rauf, Pakistan’s fast bowler was ruled out of the test after a positive test result. He was also a part of the Lahore Qalandars.
