IPL 2021: Axar Patel and Avesh Khan almost confirm a top 2 finish for Delhi Capitals

IPL 2021: Axar Patel and Avesh Khan almost confirm a top 2 finish for Delhi Capitals

It was the bowlers’ show at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi as Delhi Capitals locked horns with Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Avesh Khan and Axar Patel steered the Capitals to victory with their brilliant show with the ball. Meanwhile, it was Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Ashwin who played sensible knocks with the willow.

The four-wicket loss has caused a lot of damage for the defending champions Mumbai Indians. The chances of the Indians qualifying for the playoffs have decreased as they will now have to depend on the performance of the other teams and the net run rate.

The coin flipped in the favor of DC skipper Rishabh Pant as he opted to chase the score. Batting first, Mumbai delivered an underwhelming performance. The team could manage only 129 runs on the scoreboard in their 20 overs. Delhi bowlers were at their best in the match as they asked some serious questions from the opposition batters.

Axar Patel and Avesh Khan ran through the MI’s batting unit to cause a collapse for the team. Both Axar and Avesh picked up three wickets each as MI batters had to march back to the pavilion despite getting a good start with the willow. Suryakumar Yadav was the highest run-scorer for the defending champions with his knock of 33 runs off 26 deliveries.

Delhi Capitals also faced a lot of trouble while chasing 130. The team got off to a disastrous start as the top-order comprising Shikhar Dhawan, Steve Smith and Prithvi Shaw lost their wickets at poor scores of 8,9, and 6 respectively. This was followed by other quick wickets for the Indians.

However, Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Ashwin played the anchors role for the Capitals as they steered the team to a victory by four wickets. Iyer hammered 33 off 33 while Ashwin added 20 runs off 21 balls.
