WATCH: Babar Azam rolls his arm over for first time in international cricket, almost bags his maiden wicket
Babar Azam bowls for the first time in international cricket
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is renowned for his prowess with the bat. Renowned for his gorgeous cover drives and cheeky deft touches, Babar decide to roll his arm over in the second Test match against Bangladesh. It was the first time Babar bowled in international cricket and produced an impressive over as he conceded just a single run.
Pakistan finds itself in a commanding position in the rain-affected second Test. Winning the toss, the visitors decided to bat first and put up a daunting 300 runs as they declared on the fourth day. Put in to bat, Bangladesh made a mess of it as they find themselves seven wickets down at the score of 76.
Babar Azam misses his maiden Test wicket by a whisker
The 26th over of the Bangladesh innings saw Babar Azam take the ball. The Pakistani skipper came up with a tidy over as he took up the ball for the first time for Pakistan. Babar has 5 scalps in the 72 first-class matches he has featured in. The 27-year-old has 12 scalps in 147 List A matches and 4 wickets in 205 T20Is.
Babar Azam was close to opening his account in international cricket but fell short by a whisker. The penultimate delivery of his over saw him almost get Taijul Islam caught in the slips but the ball didn’t carry to the fielder. Babar’s over was the final one of the day as Bangladesh survived a tough day.
While Pakistan is in the driver’s seat in the second Test, a win looks improbable for the visitors. Heavy rains meant a play of only 124.3 overs has been possible across 4 days. If Pakistan were to win, they will have to bag 13 wickets in less than 90 overs. While it is a possibility, it looks very uncertain that Bangladesh will give up without a fight.
