BCCI is likely to allow increased crowd capacity of up to 65-70 percent in IPL 2022, according to reports
BCCI
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off on March 26. (Saturday). To reduce travel and exposure to COVID-19, the tournament will be held at four different locations in Maharashtra (3 in Mumbai and 1 in Pune). To begin, the Maharashtra government and BCCI agreed to allow a 25% capacity crowd into the stadiums.
However, things are likely to change soon as the BCCI considers allowing more fans into stadiums as the COVID situation improves with each passing day. On March 28, India reported 1,259 new COVID-19 cases, with 35 deaths.
According to journalist K Shriniwas Rao, the BCCI may allow a crowd of 65-70 percent capacity for the matches. According to reports, the official announcement will be made soon. Even ticket sales for all matches are not currently available.
This is great news for Indian fans who have missed watching the IPL from the stands the last two seasons. The entire season will be played in the UAE in 2020, while the first phase was held behind closed doors in India last year. Following the postponement of the IPL due to the COVID outbreak, the second phase was held in the UAE once more.
With the action returning to India and the BCCI allowing more spectators, many more fans will be able to cheer on their favourite players from the stands.
