WATCH: ‘Crowd draws blood’ – Ben McDermott’s humongous six leaves a young fan bloodied

Fan injured with Ben McDermott's six

A Ben McDermott six during the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers hit a young fan in the crowd. While the video of the incident has gone viral, reports suggest that the fan is ‘ok’. The Scorchers registered an emphatic victory as the Hurricanes were bundled out for just 129.

Opener D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott were the only two batsmen who managed to cross the 20 run mark in the lineup. McDermott tried to tip the balance to the Hurricanes’ side with a whirlwind cameo of 41, but it wasn’t enough as the 182 run target proved too good for Matthew Wade and Co.

Ben McDermott hit three sixes and as many fours during his quickfire 41 off 29 balls. One of these sixes caught a young fan on the forehead. The youngster attempted to pluck the catch in the crowd but could not hold on to it and the ball hit him right in the forehead. He immediately went down clutching his face.

The commentators, who first thought it was just a dropped catch in the crowd, were late to realise that the fan was injured. “Oh no. He’s got a bit of blood. We need some medic. He didn’t even realise,” the commentators said on air. Fans came to the kid’s assistance calling for medical help.

Continuing his golden run, Mitchell Marsh smashed a ton in the first innings to help the Men in Orange to a gigantic total. The 53 run win say the Perth Scorchers make it three in a row to kick off their campaign. On the other hand, the Hurricanes lingered at 5 with just a win from their first three games.
