CSK

CSK have had a disastrous start to their IPL 2022 campaign, losing both of their first two games. The team’s most recent defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants sparked controversy among fans and pundits, as Ravindra Jadeja’s team failed to defend a massive total of 210 runs.

To be fair to the defending champions, CSK had to field a weak bowling lineup due to injuries to three key players: New Zealand pacer Adam Milne, Indian seamer Deepak Chahar, and English death-over specialist Chris Jordan.

Jordan is currently suffering from a tonsil infection and was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on March 26th, where he remained for six days. Adam Milne, on the other hand, played in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders but was later injured, forcing him to miss the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

To add salt to Ravindra Jadeja’s team’s wounds, Deepak Chahar is also out due to an injury he sustained while playing for India against West Indies.

This puts Chennai Super Kings in a bind because they lack an experienced pacer in their starting XI. Against the Lucknow Super Giants, the defending champions fielded two inexperienced sprinters in Tushar Deshpande and Mukesh Chowdhury.

It proved fatal, as the LSG batters rode these two bowlers and scored 79 runs in the 7.3 overs bowled by Chowdhury and Deshpande. Given the injury concerns, CSK are expected to stick with the same lineup in their upcoming match against Punjab Kings on Sunday, April 3.

CSK coach Stephen Fleming provides a BIG UPDATE on the fitness of pace trio Chris Jordan, Adam Milne, and Deepak Chahar.

Stephen Fleming: CSK exposed for first time in loss to SRH

“Adam Milne has had some treatment, he’s hopefully not too far away. Chris Jordan, also, hopefully not too far away, and of course Deepak Chahar. So we are a bit of resource down with our fast bowling, but at some stage, all teams will find they are a little bit skinny in some areas,” Fleming said.

Besides that, Deepak Chahar himself has shared an update on Instagram, where he is seen bowling in the nets. “Update on Demand,” wrote the seamer.

While CSK were unlucky to have three of their prime pacers unavailable all at once, the decision to give Shivam Dube the ball in the 19th over was met with a lot of criticism, as he conceded 25 runs and effectively conceded the game to LSG.

Speaking on that decision, Fleming elaborated “Whether that was another spinner, the decision was made in the middle to use Dube, and they counted it well. So we always knew that one over was going to be pivotal and I think they did as well, but they played it very well.”
