IPL 2022: CSK pacer Deepak Chahar likely to return during mid-April – Reports

Deepak Chahar

As a pleasant surprise for Chennai Super Kings fans, Deepak Chahar will be available for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As of now, he is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore, and will not be undergoing surgery as originally proposed. He is expected to return to the field by the middle of April.

A quadriceps tear caused Chahar to miss the subsequent series against Sri Lanka after he sustained it during the T20I series against the West Indies. The bowling all-rounder had initially been expected to miss the vast majority of the season, if not the entire contest, after undergoing surgery. However, since the operation has been scheduled, Chahar should be ready to compete from mid-April.

As mentioned in the Times of India, Deepak Chahar is expected to join the CSK camp in Surat in a couple of weeks. Apparently, the franchise wants to monitor his fitness and make him available as soon as possible. He is both an effective pacer and a decent death over the bowler for the Yellow Army. To date, he has taken 58 wickets in as many appearances for the team. Additionally, the right arm has also proved to be a good batsman lower down the order. Considering all these factors, CSK decided against spending 14 crores to reacquire pacer’s services at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Interestingly, this was CSK’s first purchase of over 10 crores during the bidding event. CSK, having won the title four times, will be defending their title. As they have kept their core, they appear pretty stable on paper. Thus, expectations for MS Dhoni’s team will once again be high.
