“I clearly told RCB not to retain me…”, Dan Christian on why he didn’t put his name in the auction for IPL 2022
Dan Christian
Dan Christian, his pregnant partner Jorgia Dunn, and Glenn Maxwell were subjected to online abuse last year because of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator in the Indian Premier League in Sharjah, UAE. KKR knocked them out by four wickets.
Dan Christian said: “I went through a lot of abuse last year and that is the reason I didn’t put my name in the auction. At this age, I would rather enjoy my cricket. I clearly told RCB not to retain me if they had any plans, so, this was a decision made long back.”
In that match, Dan Christian didn’t have the best day as he could only contribute 9 runs and went wicketless by conceding 29 runs from 1.4 overs at an economy rate of 17.40. He contributed only 14 runs and picked up only 14 wickets in the entire season. This was also the last match for Virat Kohli as RCB’s skipper.

RCB had backed Dan Christian from the online trolls
An infuriated Maxwell slammed the abuses ‘garbage’ and ‘disgusting’ by tweeting: “Great season by RCB, unfortunately we fell short of where we thought we should be. Doesn’t take away from an amazing season. Some of the garbage that has been flowing on social media is absolutely disgusting.” While Dan Christian had shared a story on his Instagram and said: “Check out the comments section of my partner’s Instagram post. I didn’t have a great game tonight, but that’s sport. However please leave her out of it.”
RCB tweeted, “We’re 100% with you @danchristian54 and we will not tolerate online abuse towards players and especially towards their families and loved ones.” In another tweet, RCB said “Winning and losing are a part of this beautiful game we all love. Our players put in the hard work day in and day out to reach the level they’re at. They give it their everything to try and win the game for us.”
