West Indies’ Deandra Dottin took a spectacular catch as she held on to a screamer in the field and dismissed South Africa’s opener Laura Wolvaardt on Thursday, March 24 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

In the whole tournament, Laura Wolvaardt got out cheaply for the first time. In the over of Chinelle Henry, she tried to cut a wide ball of her. But the ball was grabbed by a flying Deandra Dottin. Dottin dived left and took the catch.

Meanwhile, rain hindered the match and both South Africa and West Indies were rewarded one point each. Only 10.5 overs were possible after the delay of four hours. With this point South Africa became the second team, after Australia, to qualify for the semi-finals.

West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first. In a match of only 26 overs a side, West Indies ballers made full of the extra bounce in the pitch and dismissed the top four without their reaching double digits. They reduced South Africa to 22-4 as Chinelle Henry became the star after taking three wickets.

It was Mignon du Preez, and Marizanne Kapp who were rebuilding the innings with a partnership of 39 runs off 32 balls for the fifth wicket. But then drizzle started and it hung around through out the day. The condition didn’t improve and the match was called off.

West Indies have lost three games and their hopes are hanging. If India or England lose a match, they could still go towards the knockouts.
India is at the fourth position with six pints on the leaderboard.

Now India will need to win their next match against South Africa on Sunday to progress to the knockout stage. Even if no result comes out of the match, India will still have a better run rate than West Indies. West Indies have finished their league campaign after this match and they will look towards South Africa’s win over India.
