[Watch] – ‘Superman’ Dewald Brevis dives into the air to make an unexpected catch, reminding AB de Villiers
Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis, South Africa’s U-19 star, has been attracting attention in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with his dynamic cricketing skills. Whether it’s his batting or his on-field agility, the rising cricketer has impressed for the Mumbai Indians in the league. His fielding prowess was on display once again on Wednesday during the match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Dewald Brevis efforts were so impressive that even the commentators couldn’t stop themselves from praising him. But, sadly, it was all for not.
During Punjab’s innings, 18-year-old Dewald Brevis tried his hardest to catch Shikhar Dhawan’s catch; although he was unable to prevent the ball from crossing the boundary, his effort reminded AB de Villiers. Let us introduce you to Dewald Brevis, also known as Baby Ab.
Shikhar Dhawan whipped a flighted delivery from Murugan Ashwin over square leg on the first delivery of the ninth over. Dewald Brevis, who was fielding near the deep backward square leg boundary, ran to his left and dove full length to catch the ball. But it slipped through his grasp and sailed over the boundary line for a six.

If Dewald Brevis had not dived, the ball would have hit the ground before going for four runs, but it was given maximum, adding to MI’s woes. As soon as Brevis stood up, his teammate Jayadev Unadkat patted him on the back and thanked him for his efforts.
Dhawan was playing after scoring 27 runs when he received this lifeline. Dhawan took advantage of the opportunity, scoring 70 runs in 50 balls with five fours and three sixes. For the 47th time, he has scored 50 or more runs in the IPL. In this case, he matched Virat Kohli, who has 50 fifty-plus scores to his name.
Apart from Dhawan, captain Mayank Agarwal (52) hit a brilliant half-century, which helped Punjab Kings to score 199 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the alloted 20 overs.
