DJ Bravo breaks Lasith Malinga’s record, becomes the highest wicket-taker in IPL

DJ Bravo has represented Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions and Chennai Super Kings. Bravo (2013 and 2015) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2016 and 2017) are the only two players to have won the purple cap twice. During the match between CSK and Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday, he dismissed Deepak Hooda in the second ball of his final over. He would have had this in his earlier overs had Moeen Ali not dropped a simple catch of Quinton de Kock.
With this wicket, the 38-year-old overtook Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga’s record of most wickets (171) in the IPL history. He reached the milestone of 171 wickets in his 153 IPL matches. However, Lasith Malina had taken 170 wickets in 122 matches while representing Mumbai Indians.
Bravo played his first IPL when he replaced an injured Malinga in the inaugural season of IPL in 2008. Bravo and Malinga are followed by Amit Mishra (166), Piyush Chawla (157) and Harbhajan Singh (150). Notably, Bravo also stands at top with the most T20 wickets to his name, which is a total of 575 wickets from 524 matches with an average of 24.08.
