“MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the?”- Harbhajan Singh

MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh, former Indian spinner, was a part of India’s World Cup winning team in 2011 at home. He took a dig at those who believe that it was MS Dhoni who alone brought the World Cup. Harbhajan believes that the whole team should be given the credit for winning the match against Sri Lanka in the finals and not just MS Dhoni.
Harbhajan Singh’s former teammate Mohammad Kaif pointed out that Shreyas Iyer ‘led the Delhi Capitals to the final in IPL 2020. But Harbhajan Singh has different opinions to this. He believes that it was a team effort and every player played their part equally.
“Iyer was the captain of Delhi Capitals (in 2020), took the team to the final. He doesn’t show much emotion although in his heart he would have wanted to win against his previous team,” Kaif had said during the Byju’s Cricket Live Show.
“I don’t understand one thing. Shreyas Iyer took the team to the final? Were the rest of the players playing gulli-danda?” Said Harbhajan.

“What did Gambhir do? What did others do?”- Harbhajan Singh

He pointed out that Indian media has always MS Dhoni’s name in their headlines.
“When Australia wins the World Cup, the headlines are: ‘Australia won the World Cup’. When India won the World Cup at that time, everyone said, ‘MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the? (Were the remaining 10 players there to have milkshake?). What did the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do? It’s a team game. When 7-8 players play well, only then will your team progress,” Harbhajan said.
In the World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2011, Dhoni had played a very crucial knock of 91 unbeaten including the famous six off Nuwan Kulasekara to help India chase 275 and clench their second World Cup title. Gambhir had also scored 97 runs but MS Dhoni was named the Player of the Match. Since then, the debate of Gambhir vs Dhoni started.
