Even as the five-match Test series between India vs England inches towards the climax, the drama doesn’t seem to end. With the COVID-19 virus ruling the Indian support staff out of the final Test, the England Cricket Board has come up with an interesting suggestion. Reports suggest that the ECB has approached the Indian management to forfeit the Manchester Test.

While the COVID-19 scare in the Indian camp has put the match in jeopardy, the governing body has proposed that the visitors give England an easy walk-over. This would level the series in which the hosts are trailing 1-0. The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly declined the proposal and has expressed their wish of postponing the Test to a mutually decided date.

Head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharath Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and head physio Nitin Patel were the first to contract the virus. Following the fourth Test at the Oval, assistant physio Yogesh Parmar also tested positive for COVID-19. It was this series of positive reports that have put the game in the cradle of uncertainty.

The English board’s proposal for a walkover was met with strong opposition from Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his senior mate Rohit Sharma. According to a TOI report, the duo opines that the Test match can be cancelled provided India takes the series 2-1 or they are ready to play the Test as and when decided between the two Boards.
