The India vs New Zealand Twenty20 International (T20I) is all set to begin from November 17, 2021 (Wednesday) onwards. The ‘Men in Blue’ are set to witness the beginning of a new era in the shortest format with the arrival of Rohit Sharma as the captain and Rahul Dravid as the head coach.

Meanwhile, Sharma addressed a pre-match press conference ahead of the first game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur alongside Dravid. The 34-year-old talked about the role of Virat Kohli in the shortest format, who had earlier stepped down as the T20I skipper. Notably, the ‘Modern Master’ won’t be seen in action during the limited-overs series against the Blackcaps.

“Virat Kohli’s role won’t change. He will keep on doing what he has been doing for the team for so many years,” said India’s newly appointed T20I captain Rohit Sharma in a virtual press conference on the eve of the first T20I when he was asked about Kohli.

“He is a very important player for the team. Whenever he plays, he creates an impact. He always leaves his mark on the match,” he added.

“Virat comes back, it will only strengthen the team”

The newly-appointed captain further went on to heap praises for the contribution of Virat Kohli to the national side. Sharma highlighted that the team India will only get better with the arrival of the Delhi cricketer.

“Everyone has a different role in the team. And those change based on whether you are batting first or chasing so based on that, roles will keep on changing. Everyone is open to that and I’m sure when Virat comes back, it will only strengthen the team. The wealth of experience he has and the kind of batsman he is, it will only add value to our squad,” he signed off.
