ENG vs IND: Twitter goes wild as India wins their first match at Oval in 50 years; thump England by 157 runs
After a grueling five-day Test match, team India finally emerged victorious against favorite England by 157 runs. This was after 50 years that India managed to breach the Oval. India’s last victory at the Kennington Oval in London came way back in 1971. The fourth Test between Virat Kohl-led side was filled with thrill, entertainment, and drama as the momentum swung back and forth throughout the match.
The coin flipped in the favor of England skipper Joe Root and he decided to bowl first. The decision was fruitful for England as they managed to send the Indian batters back to the pavilion at a paltry total of 191. India could manage 191 on the board in their first innings only because of Shardul Thakur who hammered a much-needed knock of 57 runs.
Capitalizing on the momentum gained in the first innings, England ended up with a 99-run lead halfway through the game. Jos Buttler’s replacement, Ollie Pope was the standout player for the hosts as he hammered 159-ball 81. The middle-order batsman was aptly supported by Chris Woakes who ended up with 50 runs off 60 deliveries.
Batting in the third innings, the visitors defied all odds as they produced a mind-boggling performance with the willow. Rohit was the highest run-getter as he slammed his maiden overseas international ton. Almost all the players did their job well and contributed positively to the scoreboard. The visiting nation ended up with 466 runs on the scoreboard and provided England with a target of 368.
Bowlers steered India to a sensational win at the Oval
The last innings of the match provided the cricket fraternity with utmost entertainment as both teams fought tooth and nail to win the match. It was the Indian bowling unit that emerged victorious in the end as all the bowlers breathed fire with the ball.
Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowler for the Indian side as he ended up with three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur had two each under their belt. The sensational performance delivered by the Indian bowlers on the last day kept the social media talking. The cricket fraternity is falling short of words to hail the Indian team for their fighting spirit and come back after an embarrassing loss in Leeds.
A lot of veteran players including Virender Sehwag, Wasim Jaffer, Michael Vaughan, VVS Laxman, and many others heaped praises on the visitors for their brilliant performance.
