It was another nail-biting thriller at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium as table-toppers Chennai Super Kings locked horns with wooden-spooners Sunrisers Hyderabad. After the match, the point-rich have gotten richer and the poor, poorer. Chennai Super Kings become the first team to qualify for the second stage of the competition in IPL 2021 as they hammered Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets.

Playing at the slow and sluggish wicket of Sharjah, the Orange Army didn’t enjoy an ideal outing. The hero of SRH’s previous victory, Jason Roy, failed to get going in the match as he lost his wicket in the fourth over to Josh Hazelwood. What followed after that was CSK picking timely wickets to deny the opposition batters a chance to settle on the field.

Wriddhiman Saha was the only player for the Hyderbad camp who showed the intent and zeal to score runs. However, lack of support from the other end resulted in the wicketkeeper-batsman going back to the pavilion after scoring 44 off 46.

The Super Kings bowlers deserve all the credit for a collapse of SRH’a batting unit. The CSK bowlers flaunted their discipline and character in the match. Hazelwood was the pick of the bowler for MS Dhoni-led’s side with three wickets to his credit. DJ Bravo returned with two scalps while Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja had one each under their belt.

Chasing 135, The Yellow Army got off to a blistering start as the opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad again live up to their reputation. Ruturaj smashed 45 runs while Faf returned with a sublime knock of 41 runs. However, Jason Holder gave the much-needed breakthrough to SRH by picking Gaikwad in the 11th over.

The same was followed by another three quick wickets for the Hyderbad camp. However, the team couldn’t stop CSK from continuing their winning streak in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
