MS Dhoni finally has another IPL title to his name. Playing at the Dubai International Stadium, Chennai Super Kings once again stamped their authority in the Indian Premier League as they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. It was a good day at the office for the Super Kings as they excelled in all three facets of the game be it batting, bowling or fielding.

Put to bat first, Chennai Super Kings made a mockery of the Kolkata bowlers. The golden opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis once again worked their charm with the willow as they gave CSK a perfect start. The two batters stitched a crucial 61-run stand in eight overs.

It was Sunil Narine who gave the first breakthrough to KKR by sending Gaikwad back to the pavilion. However, a wicket failed to damper the Super Kings’ spirit as they continued their assault with the willow. Du Plessis emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the MS Dhoni-led side as he stood till the very end to ensure that his team reached a respectable score.

The former South Africa skipper hammered 86 runs off 59 deliveries. Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali also made notable contributions as they slammed 15-ball 31 and 20-ball 37 respectively. A combined effort by the batters resulted in the Yellow Army posting 192 runs on the board in their 20 overs.

Chasing 193, the Knight Riders got off to a decent start. The team looked in good touch as Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill smashed a fifty each. However, the arrival of Shardul Thakur in the 11th over shifted the entire momentum towards the Super Kings.

The seamer lived up to his reputation as he again picked two wickets in the form of Iyer and Nitish Rana. The Super Kings then gave no chance to the Knight Riders to make a comeback in the game. CSK bowlers continued picking wickets at regular intervals to keep KKR out of the match.
