Over the years, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been the hub of prolific young Indian pacers and the latest addition to the list is Umran Malik. The 21-year-old bowler hailing from Srinagar made his debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders and was on the money from the get-go. In his very first over, Malik bowled the fastest ball by an Indian bowler in IPL 2021.

Umran Malik breached the 150 kmph mark in what was an eventful debut for the youngster. Although the speedster went wicketless in a low scoring game, he impressed one and all with this brisk pace. Umran Malik was part of the SRH squad as a net bowler and was included in the side after left-arm quick T Natarajan contracted the COVID-19 virus. Malik impressed the team management with his raw pace in the nets before making his debut as he was included in the side at the expense of veteran quick Sandeep Sharma.

Malik made his T20 debut for Jammu and Kashmir during the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, in January this year. In his T20 debut during J&K vs Railways, he returned with the impressive figures of 3/24. The speed merchant then went on to make his List A debut on 27 February 2021, for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

On his IPL debut, Umran Malik clocked two deliveries over 150 kmph with his fastest ball being at 151.03. As a result, he is now the only Indian in the top ten for this season to deliver the fastest balls. During his first match in the tournament, he bowled nine out of the ten fastest balls delivered by SRH bowlers in the current season.
