IPL 2022: 5 big names who might go unsold at the mega auction
Players who might go unsold at IPL 2022: Chris Gayle and Harbhajan Singh
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is set to be a 10-team affair with the arrival of franchises of Ahmedabad and Lucknow. This will allow more players to participate in the tournament and showcase their talent at a massive stage.
Adding to this, IPL 2022 will witness a mega auction, scheduled in the first week of January. All the existing eight sides have revealed their lists of retained players while the others will try their luck in the auction. However, not all players will find a team and some of them are likely to go unsold. Here are the top five big names who might go unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Chris Gayle
Legendary T20 batter Chris Gayle might also go unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction as age is not on his side. The southpaw has represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the past. Moreover, he is amongst the top run-getters in the Indian cash-rich league.
Harbhajan Singh
Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh is likely to announce retirement from all forms owing to his age of 41 years. However, if this doesn’t happen, he will go unsold at the mega auction. Notably, Bhajji warmed the bench in most of the games for his previous franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last two editions.
Kedar Jadhav
Team India all-rounder Kedar Jadhav was expected to perform well when the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought him last year for INR 2 crores. However, his outings turned out to be miserable and the 36-year-old was later dropped from the playing XI. After representing various franchises in the history of the tournament, Jadhav might not find a buyer in 2022.
Ishant Sharma
India’s one of the greatest Test bowlers of all time Ishant Sharma has been a part of plenty of IPL teams since the advent of the IPL. After beginning his career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he has played for now-defunct Deccan Chargers (DC), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and currently with the Delhi-based franchise.
Jaydev Unadkat
Jaydev Unadkat, who has been Rajasthan Royals’ lead bowler for the past few years. However, his performance in the IPL has seen a significant dip and has been dropped from the side many times. It won’t come as a surprise if the Gujarat-born fails to find a buyer at the 2022 auction.
