IPL 2022: 5 overseas players who might go unsold at the mega auction

Overseas players who might go unsold at IPL 2022: Chris Gayle and Imran Tahir
The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be a 10-team affair with the arrival of two new franchises of Ahmedabad and Lucknow. This will allow more players to participate in the tournament and showcase their talent at such a massive stage.
Adding to this, IPL 2022 will witness a mega auction, scheduled to take place in the first week of February, as per some media reports. And all the existing eight sides have revealed their lists of retained players while the remaining ones will try their luck in the auction. However, not all players will find a new team and some of them might turn out to go unsold. Here are the top five overseas players who might go unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction:
Chris Gayle

Legendary T20 batter Chris Gayle might go unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction as age is not on his side. The southpaw has represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the past. Moreover, he is amongst the all-time top run-getters in the Indian cash-rich league.
Imran Tahir

Just like Gayle, Imran Tahir is also 42-year-old and will be turning 43 before the forthcoming edition of the cash-rich league begins this year. The Proteas spinner has served Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the past and was associated with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) till the previous season.
Mushfiqur Rahim

Bangladeshi wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim has time and again tried his luck at the auction of various IPL editions since 2008. However, he has failed to attract even a single bid from any franchise. Rahim has played 225 T20 matches and has scored runs at a fair average of 29.19 but looks like he has passed his prime time.
Tom Curran

English all-rounder Tom Curran is the youngest player on this list who might fail to find a buyer at the IPL 2022 mega auction. The 26-year-old has represented three different franchises in three teams – KKR in 2018, RR in 2020 and DC in 2021. However, he didn’t make any impact with either bat or ball.
Dan Christian

Australia all-rounder Dan Christian is one of the most successful players in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL). However, he hasn’t produced any reasonable performance in the Indian T20 League as he was even dropped by the Bangalore-based franchise in IPL 2021. This might make things difficult for the 38-year-old to attract buyers at the mega auction.
