IPL 2022 Retention: ‘IPL isn’t the same anymore’ – Netizens react as big guns get released ahead of mega auction

KL Rahul, Rashid Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kagiso Rabada

The IPL 2022 retention has sprung quite a few surprises as franchises gave their best shot to figure out a core team ahead of the mega auction. While few franchises went ahead to retain their big guns, others had different plans as they saw their stars being released for one reason or the other.

Among the biggest surprises is the release of KL Rahul and Rashid Khan. While reports suggest that they face a one year suspension over an allegation of negotiating with other franchises, it is a huge loss for both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings to let them go. Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan and Jofra Archer are some other names who failed to make the cut.

While there have been some surprising releases, the retention list too has a fair bit of surprises. The biggest of them being the retention of Mayank Agarwal for a whopping 16 crores by the Punjab Kings. To go with it, SRH retained an inexperienced Umran Mallik while Delhi Capitals chose to go with Anrich Nortje, who has been ineffective in India over Kagiso Rabada.

All eyes will be on the two new franchises who will have the luxury to draft two payers from the IPL 2022 Release list. Both sides will like to get their hands on the best of the lot and that will be crucial to determining the dynamics of the much-awaited mega auction.
