The second Test of the Freedom series saw tensions flare up at the Wanderers as Indian vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah took the fight to the opposition. As the Indian tail looked to add some crucial runs in the second innings, South Africa peppered them with a barrage of bouncers, a ploy that led Bumrah to lose his calm.
In his first Test as captain, KL Rahul called it right at the toss and decided to have a bat first. Continuing his superb run of form, the stand-in skipper brought up his second fifty-plus score of the series. Unfortunately, none of the other batters were able to stitch a partnership with KL Rahul. As India managed to put up 202 runs on the board, Shardul Thakur‘s seven-wicket haul helped the visitors skittle out the Proteas for just 229.

Despite a rocky start, India managed to overturn the 27 run lead as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane put up a century stand. But things fell apart thereafter as wickets fell in heaps. Hanuma Vihari stepped up to add some crucial runs to the total with the tail. And it was then that the Proteas decided to go short against the Indian tailenders.
Tensions soared in the 54th over of India’s second innings as Marco Jansen decided to unleash a barrage of bouncers against Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian quick took a couple of blows as he was struck on the shoulder but Bumrah responded by dusting it off and showed no signs of pain.
Jasprit Bumrah’s response irked Jansen who unleashed yet another bouncer. The Indian vice-captain decided to pull it away before it hit him on the shoulder yet again. Jansen gave Bumrah a stare before both the players were seen muttering something t each other. The very next moment both the pacers charged toward each other for a mid-pitch confrontation.
India managed 266 runs in their second innings setting a 240 run target for the hosts. With two more days to go, the Test is poised for a thrilling end. while India will be confident with their impressive bowling lineup, the Proteas will have to step up if they are to level the series.
