The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman has been roped in as the mentor of the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. The announcement regarding the same was made by the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jay Shah on Wednesday, September 8.
The official Twitter handle of BCCI posted a short video where Shah informed regarding Dhoni’s contribution to the upcoming T20 World Cup. “I have one announcement to make. Mr. MS Dhoni will join Team India as a mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“I am glad that MS has accepted BCCI’s request and he will join Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup. MS Dhoni will work closely with Ravi Shastri and other support staff to support Team India,” Jay Shah said in the video.
Jay Shah becomes the butt of jokes on social media
The cricket fans appreciated the roping of the former Indian skipper as they welcomed the move by BCCI with open arms. Many cricket enthusiasts are of the view that Dhoni’s inclusion can help India end their ICC trophy drought. Notably, the Ranchi-born is India’s most successful skipper. The 40-year-old has led India to three ICC trophies including T20 World Cup 2007, ODI World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013.
However, the Twitterati weren’t much happy with the video of Jay Shah posted by BCCI. Hearing Shah, many felt that the office-bearer wasn’t comfortable in speaking in English. Thus, he became a laughing stock among the fans as they advised the BCCI secretary to learn the language properly before trying to make such massive announcements.
