Veteran Indian right-arm pacer Jhulan Goswami reached a new height after becoming the joint-highest wicket-taker in the history of Women’s World Cups on Thursday, March 10 against their match with New Zealand at Hamilton. She shares the tally of 39 wickets with Australia’s Lyn Fullston.

In the match against New Zealand, Jhulan Goswami bagged 1 wicket, after dismissing Kiwi wicket-keeper Katey Martin in the 50th over to achieve this feat. Overall, her bowling figure was 1/41 in 9 overs. New Zealand ended their innings at 260/9.

The 39-year-old Jhulan Goswami is also known as ‘Chakda Express’ and has debuted in January 2002. After two decades, she is playing her fifth ICC Women’s World Cup in 2022. She stands in first place with the record of 248 wickets in 197 games in the history of women’s ODI. Jhulan Goswami has also played 12 Tests and snatched 44 wickets. Her 68 T20Is got her 56 wickets.

Australia’s Fullston reached this place in her 20th game but Jhulan Goswami did this in her 30th game. They are followed by England’s Carole Hodges (37), England’s Clare Taylor (36) and Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick (33).

India lose by 62 runs against New Zealand

India is playing its second league match against the host New Zealand. Indian bowlers did their best after limiting the White Ferns at 260/9 but they themselves fell short of the target. This defeat leaves India to slip to fifth place among the eight teams on the leaderboard. New Zealand with two wins from their three matches is second behind Australia.

In the match, Pooja Vastrakar snatched 4 wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs. With the bat, Harmanpreet Kaur scored 71 off 62 and skipper Mithali Raj added 31 runs. While chasing 261, India were all out for 198. India will face West Indies in their third game on Saturday.
