Before the commencement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the New Zealand tour of Pakistan garnered a lot of headlines. New Zealand was scheduled to feature in a limited-overs tour against Pakistan, however, they decided against participating in the series at the last moment.

New Zealand pulled out from the tour after landing in Pakistan and completing their quarantine period citing security reasons. Thus, when Pakistan locked horns with the Kiwis in the T20 World Cup, the Men in Green were expected to be aggressive. Pakistan handed a five-wicket defeat to the Kiwis.

Speaking about the entire incident during the post-match presentation, Kane Williamson reckoned that what happened was unfortunate and no player had any say in it. The skipper also added that it was unfortunate not only for the Pakistan players and fans but also for the NZ cricketers.

They played in the right spirit, I believe, and a great spirit: Kane Williamson

“That was obviously a very unfortunate, disappointing situation for Pakistani cricket fans and the cricketers, a decision that was outside of the players’ control. But all the guys were there looking forward to that series to start, and unfortunately, it didn’t happen. So it was very disappointing for all involved,” Kane Williamson said on New Zealand’s Pakistan tour being called off.

Further in the interaction, Williamson also ruled out the talks regarding Pakistan playing aggressive cricket against them. The Blackcaps skipper added that the Men in Green played in the right spirit of the game. He also heaped praises on the Babar Azam’s men for their exceptional performance in the competition so far.

“No, they played in the right spirit, I believe, and a great spirit. They’re a very competitive, proud cricketing nation, and they showed that tonight. They’ve been outstanding in the first couple of games of this tournament. I’m sure they’ll be very, very competitive throughout the back end as well. Their hopes are high, no doubt,” Kane concluded.
