Kane Williamson’s dubious dismissal triggers no-ball controversy
Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson has been in the news for a controversial dismissal during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against the Rajasthan Royals. However, during SRH’s match against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 4, Williamson’s another dismissal might spark yet one more controversy.
Chasing 170 runs, SRH needed a good start but that didn’t happen. In the fourth over Kane Williamson flicked the ball towards the leg side off Avesh Khan’s delivery. But the ball only reached some heights before falling down onto the hands of a fine leg fielder, Andrew Tye, to end Williamson’s innings for 16 off 16 balls.
In the powerplay overs, only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. Replays showed that three fielders were outside the circle. Just before Avesh did his run-up, a graphic appeared on the left side of the screen and it showed three fielders. It could have called a no-ball by the umpires and Williamson would have been spared.
A Twitter user showed that graphic, that there were three fielders outside the 30-yard circle.
Kane Williamson has been dismissed twice over dubious calls
Kane Williamson’s another controversial dismissal was against the RR when Sanju Samson failed to catch it and Devdutt Padikkal caught the ball at slips when it had bounced a little before landing on his hands. When the on-field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire, the latter had given it out. Due to this, SRH had lodged a complaint to the BCCI about this controversial dismissal.
After defeated by 12 runs, Kane Williamson said: “Looked like a good surface. 170 on any day is a challenge…have to play well. But at the same time, we knew if we could build partnerships, get off to a reasonable start, we have enough firepower. Didn’t quite work today. The guys with the roles they have with the ball were outstanding. It’s small margins. A few ones and a few twos and the chase takes quite a different shape.”
