Michael Hussey tests negative for COVID-19; set to return to Australia soon

Former Australian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has tested negative for COVID-19, according to the franchise’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan. The Aussie was among those in the bio-bubble during the recently suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) who had tested positive. His positive test came after bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a member of the maintenance staff tested positive.
It was then reported in a week’s time that Hussey had tested negative meaning he could join the Aussie contingent in Maldives. The group of players had reached island due to the fact that a travel ban was in place in their country banning flights from India till May 15. Thus, it was decided that they would travel to Maldives and remain there till the ban is lifted due to the safety in the country.
However for Hussey, he tested positive again following the negative test meaning that he was forced to remain in isolation for more days. He had been airlifted to a medical facility in Chennai from Delhi along with Balaji and while the latter went home after recovery, Hussey couldn’t. But now, finally, he has returned a negative test again.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan who himself had a COVID-19 scare during the tournament, spoke to PTI today about Michael Hussey’s health and said, “Hussey has returned with negative RT-PCR results and has recovered well. We haven’t yet decided when he is going to fly back and which route he will take — Maldives or Australia.”
Thus, it remains unclear as to whether Hussey will join the Aussie contingent in Maldives before proceeding to Australia or if he will directly be transported home. Most of the players who had tested positive during the suspended IPL have now returned negative tests with the exception of Wriddhiman Saha who has tested positive for the second time today.
