“Ab wo zamana gaya”- Mumbai Indians again succumb to Lucknow Super Giants

Rohit Sharma

Lucknow Super Giants hammered Mumbai Indians by 18 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday, April 16. Mumbai Indians are yet to win a single game and have now six defeats in a row in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians once again failed to win a single match in IPL 2022. Winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, Mumbai Indians’ bowler couldn’t restrict LSG’s batsmen, especially KL Rahul. KL Rahul played an unbeaten knock of 103 off 60 balls to help his team set a massive target of 199/4. It was Rahul’s second century against Mumbai Indians and he was also awarded the Player of the Match. MI’s Tymal Mills conceded 54 runs in three overs.

Mumbai responded with a quick fall of wickets. In the second over Avesh Khan trapped Rohit Sharma, who had scored a mere six runs off seven balls, and Quinton de Kock caught the ball. Dewald Brevis displayed his ‘Baby AB’, played a fiery knock of 31 off just 13 balls, with six fours and one six, with an impressive strike rate of 238.46. But Avesh Khan made sure to restrict the youngster from hitting the boundaries.

In the fifth over, Khan bowled a full toss and Brevis smashed it over covers but the ball hit it straight to Deepak Hooda at extra cover. Ishan Kishan, who had played 13 runs off 17 balls was stopped by Marcus Stoinis. Suryakumar Yadav once again tried to steady the innings by playing 37 runs off 27 balls with three fours but he gave an easy catch to the substitute fielder Krishnappa Gawtham. Tilak Verma, Kieron Pollard tried to hit big runs but gave their wickets. LSG’s Avesh Khan got three wickets and conceded 30 runs.

“I want Bumrah to bowl the first over”- Sunil Gavaskar on Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma and Sunil Gavaskar

Veteran Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar was surprised by Rohit Sharma’s strategy when he didn’t get Jasprit Bumrah to open the bowling. After the innings, he said that getting Bumrah to bowl the fourth over was like sending your best batsman to bat at number six.

“I want Bumrah to bowl the first over. If he gets Rahul out. If not on the first ball, then it will be very good for Mumbai in the initial overs. Rahul has been out on the first ball twice in the season, so Mumbai should start with their best bowler.
