One of the talented and controversial English cricketers of all time, Kevin Pietersen’s bitter relationship with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) isn’t hidden from anyone. Many cricket experts including former England skipper Miachwle Vaughan once said that the right-hander was made ‘a scapegoat’ by the ECB.

Kevin Pietersen has also never shied away from calling out and criticising the apex body. Recently, on being asked whether he would have played for England if given an option to go back in time, KP slyly responded that his mother would have never let him leave South Africa after watching his infamous cricketing journey. For those who don’t know, the 41-year-old was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on June 27, 1980. 

A fan asked on Twitter: “If you were given a chance to go back 20-25 years, would you change your decision of playing for England?”

In reply, Pieterson wrote: “Fantastic question! With everything that’s happened in my career, my mum said that if she knew what would happen, she would never had let me leave SA!”

The Englishman had always been a talking point both on and off the field during his active years. He began his international journey for the ‘three lions’ back in 2004 during a One Day International (ODI) game. In the following year, he played his maiden Test and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches as well.

The flamboyant middle-order batter had produced some marvellous batting performances in his career till 2013. However, he regularly made the headlines owing to several controversies one after the other. KP was in a tussle with the English Board either due to his controversial tweets and remarks or unhealthy relations with some of the senior members of the national side.
