Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds passes away in a car crash; cricketing fraternity expresses condolences

Former Australia and Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder, Andrew Symonds passed away last night in a car crash in his home state, Queensland. The 46-year-old was the sole passenger in the vehicle as authorities failed to revive him. Symonds eventually succumbed to his injuries. The 2 time World Cup champion was one of the world’s best all-rounders of his time.
“Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled,” the police statement confirmed. The entire cricketing world was shocked at the news that came out of the death of the 2 time World Cup winner. Fans rushed to Twitter to express their condolences for the player’s family.

Andrew Symonds was a huge part of the Australian team that dominated world cricket in the first decade of the 21st century. Interestingly, Andrew Symonds never lost a World Cup ODI match, winning all 18 that he featured in. Symonds was colossal of ODI cricket, scoring over 5000 runs and also picking up 133 wickets in 198 games for Australia.
He was also one of the influential characters in the Mumbai Indians’ team during the early years of IPL. Forming one of the most deadly middle-order partnerships with Kieron Pollard. Andrew Symonds featured in 39 IPL games, scoring 974 runs at picking up 20 wickets. Symonds was the perfect modern-day all-rounder, and one of the first-ever to be referred to as the finishers of the game for his power hitting.
