The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full-fledged schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup on Tuesday (27 June) and since then, the talks around India’s campaign have started. While most of the experts are already counting the hosts as one of the four semifinalists, 1983 World Cup winner K Srikkanth has picked the player who will do what Yuvraj Singh did at the 2011 World Cup.

Srikkanth while talking about the importance of all-rounders and their role in winning tournaments like the World Cup, picked star India all-rounder to replicate Yuvraj’s heroics from the 2011 World Cup. The former India selector said that as the pitches will suit India, all-rounders will play a key role.

It is worth mentioning that Yuvraj Singh was the Man of the Tournament for his all-round show at the 2011 World Cup. While the left-handed batter scored 362 runs with a remarkable average of 90.50 in the eight innings of nine matches, Singh also took 15 wickets in the tournament, maintaining an economy rate of 5.02.

K Srikkanth has imposed his faith in Ravindra Jadeja to produce something magical like what Yuvraj Singh did at 2011 World Cup.

“The sub-continent conditions; some of the wickets will turn a lot, it won’t be bouncy, and it won’t be moving as it’s in Australia. The conditions will be familiar and that’s the biggest advantage for India. In 2011 we saw some of the fantastic all-rounders coming into play and the team was very well led by Dhoni too, and that time we had a Yuvraj Singh. So, I think, Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup,” Srikkanth said to India Today.

“So, I think, Jadeja, Axar Patel… all these players will play a crucial role if India has to win the world cup,” he added.

The World Cup-winning cricketer was also asked to pick the title favorites and Kris Srikkanth wasted no time taking India’s name alongside England and Australia.

“India are one of the favorites. There’s an Australian team which is also a good side. And so are England. And I believe, Australia have played in India too. So, I’d say, India, Australia, and England out of these three, one would probably win the cup,” Srikkanth told India Today.
